It was David's fourth trip. Sahar's second. They had crossed paths, within miles and moments of meeting, but it hadn't happened yet. This time, David was coming to develop artists, build relationships, and serve the people of Iraqi Kurdistan. Sahar came for different reasons. Someone had come to her in dreams, she wanted to grow in faith, and she had written songs. Before David ever met her, he chose her along with two others, (by recommendation of local workers) as artists to work with during his five week stay. Then they met. Over the course of the weeks that followed, while working together, writing and finishing songs, drinking chai with new friends till dusk, recording in a makeshift studio, laughing through language barriers, filming music videos in the ruins of ancient cities, taking road trips through snowcapped mountain ranges, and slow-talking late into the night on open rooftops under a Middle Eastern moon.. David and Sahar fell in love. From the day they said goodbye after that fateful month of May, 2016, they embarked on a journey they never could have imagined... now nearly two years later, (and might I add.. two years of looong distance!).. engaged, and more in love than ever, they prepare for the adventure of a lifetime!!
